Ralph's insomnia gets worse when Ed Deepneau gets out of control. Ed is obsessed with the notion that Derry is becoming the new Armageddon and that time is ticking away for the residents. An evil of unimaginable proportions has began and Ralph has the one chance to beat it

I bought a lot of King books sometime last year. Mostly because of the covers to be honest. At the time, I hadn't read more than one King book.
Insomnia is now my 13 read by King.

One can't compare one book to another, it happens, but it shouldn't.
Then again, I am now comparing Insomnia to the other books I've read by King.
I think, other than On Writing: A Memoir Of The Craft, this is the best book I've read by King.

There is no discussing that he knows his craft.
He has a nice and good writing, and he tells interesting stories.
But, mostly, I find them too confusing. I know he is a pantser, and this shows in his writing, and not always in a good way.

Insomnia, on the other hand, seemed rather straight forward. The things that in other books would have confused me, made sense here, seeing as the book was somehow a spin-off of The Dark Tower-series.
That said, it's no problem reading the book without having read the series, it just makes it more fun reading his other books, to be able to pick up the Easter eggs all over the place.

The story in Insomnia is one I can in large parts understand as well. I've suffered from Insomnia for most of my life. Pills don't help, or other tips or tricks. I've gotten to a point where I go to sleep when tired - be that in the middle of the day or at 3AM - and stay awake when I'm awake.
A lot of the things Ralph went through in the start of the book is something I can understand.
It didn't stay that way, of course, but after that early in a King book getting a connection with the character, helped me stick to the rest of the story.

It was in no way the best book I've ever read, but it is a book I'm happy I've read.

4/5 stjerner
