Josh Malerman's debut novel BIRD BOX is a terrifying psychological thriller that will haunt you long after reading. Most people dismissed the reports on the news. But they became too frequent; they became too real. And soon it was happening to people we knew. Then the Internet died. The televisions and radios went silent. The phones stopped ringing And we couldn't look outside anymore.

Holy crap!
I bought this book a few years ago. The hubby found it and wanted my to buy it - every now and again he gets involved in my reading - but I didn't really have high hopes for it.
It's been sitting on my shelf for years, but it made it onto my 17 books to read in 2017-list, and I thought reading it in October was as stupid as anything.

I'm glad I did, 'cause this was a perfect Halloween read.

In a world where you can't look outside, how do you live?
Malorie is 0ne of few survivors when some kind of creature comes to our world, and everyone whom sees them goes crazy. They hurt and kill others, before killing themselves.

I honestly don't know what to say about this book, other than holy crap.
I was prepared for it to be a slow read, but I flew through it without problems. The language - while with a few repetitions - was good and had a nice flow.
It didn't take me long to connect to the readers, and the story was full of suspense.
Also, this book is full of cross clips. This can be either hit or miss, but I think it worked fine here.
While it partly worked as a spoiler, it also made me strongly wonder how they got from ''then'' to the situation they have ''now''.
There were hints and drips that made it all the more interesting.

Then there were the creatures. The reason for this whole apocalypse.
I think the strongest thing this book had going for it, is the mystery. I kept wondering about the creatures, asking myself question. At the same time the humanity of the characters also scared me, so I was frightened on two fronts, but mostly I wondered and feared the creatures.
It got so bad that I kept the blinds down even at night, when finishing this book.

I don't feel I'm able to tell you guys how much I enjoyed this book, how intense I found it, but I did find it intense, and I'm even now wondering about it.
I think it is a hit and miss book, though. People that like to get answers probably won't like this book as much as I did. I like answers, sure, but the mystery around it, and my own imagination, is what made the book this strong.
I would recommend this book to people that are open and can do a lot of thinking for themselves in regard to their reading.
